Confirm the future use before clearing construction
The owner and responsible professionals determine whether the intended room or dwelling is permitted and how the conversion will be built. This guide does not establish entitlement to living space or provide conversion design.
Separate loose contents from attached cupboards, wall linings, ceilings and other building components. Clearing stored possessions can make assessment possible, but it does not define the building-removal scope.
Illustrative retained-garage section
| Existing element | Removal question | Separate decision |
|---|---|---|
| Attached storage | Which fixed units obstruct the new layout? | Owner destinations and new storage |
| Wall or ceiling lining | Which layers need exposure for the design? | New envelope construction and material assessment |
| Existing slab | What condition does the builder need to investigate? | Floor design, structural work and any separately procured cutting |
| Vehicle opening | What ordinary interiors meet the proposed change? | Structural and exterior construction |
This section comparison is illustrative, not a construction method. It does not imply slab-cutting, underpinning or envelope-installation capability.
Compare conversion with replacement
In a conversion, the removal drawing identifies retained walls and roof construction and the interiors that conflict with the new room. In a replacement project, the design may instead require removal of the garage itself. Those are different assessment routes and should not share an ambiguous instruction to clear the garage.
Use interior demolition for ordinary retained-building interiors and the existing garage-demolition service when the structure itself is the subject of the enquiry.
Define the builder's starting condition
Ask the receiving builder which surfaces need to be exposed and what inspections or repairs follow. Service installation, insulation, new floor construction and finishing remain separately assigned. Existing linings should not be disturbed to investigate unknown materials without the appropriate assessment.
The retained-shell renovation guide is useful where the garage conversion forms part of a wider house project.
Request the appropriate assessment
Contact Clearpath with the garage location, approved design stage and retained construction. State whether the enquiry concerns ordinary interior removals or removal of the garage, and identify the builder coordinating the next work.
