Map the equipment without disturbing it
List the furnace, electrical panel, water equipment and other visible systems by their location in the basement. Describe them from a safe position using information already available. There is no need to remove covers, open a ceiling or move stored objects into an unsafe area to complete a planning record. Unknown routes and connections should remain questions.
Keep access needs visible
Identify the entrances and passages used to reach retained equipment. Record who needs that access and which rooms remain occupied or in use. Ask the responsible parties to review the arrangement before assuming people can pass through a work zone. A basement with tenants or a separate suite also needs an agreed contact and communication process.
Separate finishes from service work
Removing a ceiling around equipment differs from removing the equipment itself. Name the intended finish boundary and flag services that cross it. Keep isolation, reconnection, structural changes and any material assessment in their own assigned scopes. A retained-equipment plan does not establish that systems can continue operating during removal.
Make the retained-equipment register
Give the contractor the equipment register alongside the proposed wall, ceiling and floor removal. Include the carrying route out of the basement and any access question that affects the retained items. The basement service page explains the bounded interior scope; underpinning, excavation and floor lowering are not assumed parts of it.
Retained-equipment register
Copy these headings into your own working document and complete the rows for your property. The prompts are not findings or approval of work.
| Equipment / location | Access that must remain | Responsible reviewer / question |
|---|---|---|
| Heating equipment | Fill in | Operation and affected services to review |
| Electrical equipment | Fill in | Trade contact to confirm |
| Water equipment or drain | Fill in | Connection and access question |
Keep your completed record private. Bring the relevant scope questions into the optional project planner or discuss them directly with Clearpath.
